OURI Workshop Schedule
All workshops are about 45-60 minutes long and will be hosted in person (some may offer a hybrid option - check the schedule for more information).
Workshop Descriptions
How to Get Started in Research and Inquiry
This workshop discusses beginning steps on getting started in undergraduate research and inquiry, including what research is, how to get involved, and how to contact faculty members doing research of interest to you.
Research Ethics
Students learn a historical perspective about projects that require research compliance through the Division of Research and the requirements and training needed to conduct ethical research.
Life Hacks for Undergraduate Researchers
Students learn useful tips to succeed in undergraduate research and academic course loads. Students will gain valuable advice that will be used throughout their time at FAU, and in life after graduation.
Befriending Failure
Students learn the value of failure and how to use experiences to grow. They will gain valuable perspective on how failure informs the process of inquiry and the ways it can help build resilience.How to Apply for Undergraduate Research Grants
This workshop explores grant opportunities for undergraduate students offered through OURI. Students will also receive information on how to apply through Survey Monkey Apply, learn about application deadlines, requirements, and much more!
Attending a Conference
Topics include identifying appropriate conferences in your discipline, submitting an abstract, funding opportunities, getting the most from your conference experience, networking, and appropriately representing your institution.
Summer Research Experiences
Students will learn about how to find summer opportunities including external Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs), and summer research experiences available through OURI and FAU.
Creating a Poster and Oral Presentation
Students will be assisted in the process of creating a poster and oral research presentation,just in time for the annual OURI Undergraduate Research Symposium!
Mock Poster/Oral Presentation
Students will have the opportunity to practice their presentations by preparing and presenting a mock oral or poster presentation from beginning to end. There will be an audience to provide students the opportunity to practice and answer questions the audience may have at the end of the presentation.
Preparing for Graduate School
Students learn about graduate and professional school and how to identify programs of interest. Topics covered include guidance for personal statements, securing letters of recommendation, seeking funding opportunities, and more.

Developing an Effective CV/Resume, hosted by the Career Center
Resume/CV and cover letter need some updating? Let us help! This presentation will help increase your understanding of how your CV/resume and cover letter are used in the job search process and make sure you target your career goals. You will learn how to compose a resume that reflects your greatest strengths and talents and explore different resume formats.
